Behavioral health is about more than changing what a dog does. It is about understanding why behavior happens, what a dog is communicating, and how the environment, emotions, and learning history all interact.
Rather than focusing only on the issue in front of us, the goal is to help humans develop a deeper understanding of dog behavior and communication. That foundation allows families to continue supporting their dog well beyond our time working together.
Dogs are constantly communicating with us through their behavior. I believe that the number one tool for a successful dog owner is a solid understanding of dog behavior. And learning to "speak dog" is just like learning any new language, it takes some studying and practice.
Every behavior has a reason. And behaviors can change over the lifespan of your dog. What your dog enjoys and dislikes may change with age, illness, or experiences. So it's important to always be paying attention to what they are communicating to you.
Our role is to help you understand what your dog is communicating and to support you in responding in ways that build trust, safety, and long-term confidence for both of you.

For some families, progress means calmer walks around the neighborhood. For others, it is improved communication, increased confidence, or simply feeling less overwhelmed day to day. We want to know that we are setting our puppies up for a successful life with us, and we want to feel that our senior dogs are still getting their needs met as they age. Meaningful change happens when support is individualized and humans feel supported as learners, too.
Whether working together in person or virtually, the goal is the same: to help dogs and humans gain confidence, resiliency, skills, knowledge, and build a solid relationship of trust, for puppies, adult and senior dogs, and for growing families.
